The Car Files: Thoughts of an Enthusiast

The Ram Rebel TRX Concept is the Hellcat Truck We’ve Wanted

Just when we thought the 450HP, 510lbs-ft Raptor was something, Ram just stole the show. Ram just took their off road ready Rebel trim level, added a couple of letters to the name and dropped in the beastly 6.2L Hellcat engine and birthed the 575HP Ram Rebel TRX. Hell may have not froze over, but the Raptor might just meet it’s match.

The Rebel TRX pushes the supercharged Hellcat engine to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission and paddle shifters. Other goodies include heavy duty axles, 40% more wheel travel (over the Ram 1500) and off-road oriented performance shocks. Not only is the Rebel TRX a beast with the 575HP, it’s able to conquer all weather with its Borg Warner 44-45 transfer case. It features a purpose built scooped grill to allow the supercharged engine to breathe better and a wider track to give the truck an appearance of a Baja truck.

While some of the design pieces such as the Viper-like side exit exhaust, spare wheels integrated into the bed and the nifty but pointless, cloth door pulls, may not see production, there is no possible reason why the Ram Rebel TRX shouldn’t be produced. The market for Baja trucks for the everyday driver isn’t the largest, Chevy, Nissan and Toyota are the only others with concepts at least threatening the Raptor’s seat as king of the hill. The Ram Rebel TRX makes the most imposing threat the to the Raptor, make it Ram…make it Ram!
