Usually, I don’t post a lot of new posts on Saturdays because this is the day to gain some progess and/or traction on their project builds. Today or last night, however, I received an email from Tesla about the Model S, which I figured to be notable news.

Apparently, Tesla is discontinuing their cheapest car, the Model S 60 and 60D. The 60 and 60D, the 60 kWh battery, was introduced to aid with sales of electric cars and being the most affordable option. However, most customers purchased the 75 kWh option with similar options and in an attempt to simplify the ordering process, the 60 and 60D are being dropped. Prospective customers still have the option to order he 60 and 60D until April 16, 2017. Also, the customers who currently have a 60 or 60D can upgrade to the 75 kWh option, via an over the air update.

Below, is the text from the email, from Tesla themselves:

One year ago, we introduced the Model S 60 kWh battery as a more affordable option to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles. However, most customers ended up buying an equivalent to the Model S 75 kWh. To simplify the ordering process for our customers, we will be removing the 60 kWh option from our lineup.
Customers who still want the opportunity to own a 60 kWh Model S will have until April 16, 2017 to place their order. Any 60 kWh Model S will have the ability to upgrade their battery to 75 kWh via an over the air update.
