The 2017 Ford GT’s Horsepower and Top Speed Released

The long awaited spec sheet for the Ford GT, has finally came out from under a rock. The now 2017 Ford GT, was the first car I blogged about on The Car Files and its funny to see this thing come full circle. Anyway, all we knew about the new GT was that it was power by a 3.5L Ecoboost, to the dismay and delight of various parties, and that the old model got better fuel economy. We also knew that the new GT was supposed to be propelled by “more than 600HP,” which was vague at best. For the past two years, that’s the most we’ve gotten about the GT. If your played Forza, you got an experience with the GT, but even Forza, was not completely in tune. Well, the wait is over.

The controversial twin turbo 3.5L Ecoboost V6, that is found in several Ford models, including the Taurus SHO, F-150, and probably the mustang one day, pushes out 647HP and 495-550 lb-ft of torque depending on the RPM. The redline is apparently at 7000RPM. That’s impressive. While the purists miss the V8, the new GT makes almost 100HP more, with the old model only having 550HP. The torque numbers are similar, again, depending on RPM range. It will be fair to say that 0-60 and 1/4 mile times will reflect the stat book. It’s power-to-weight ratio is also confirmed, with a respectable 4.72 pounds/horsepwer. This means it weights approximately 3054lbs (647×4.72=3054.84).

The apparent top speed for the 2017 GT, is 216mph. That’s also improved over the old model, which had a top speed of 205mph, 11mph slower. That is even comprable to the best of the best, when talking about supercars. Keep in mind, the GT is supposed to be able reach 216mph. The Lamborghini Aventador 217mph, the McLaren 675LT and Ferrari 488GTB run 205mph, the cross town rival, C7 Corvette Z06, runs 200mph. The 2017 GT isn’t in the Koenigsegg or Bugatti fast, but its beastly nonetheless. Ironically, enough it’s top speed is a tick behind two members of the “Holy Trinity” (LaFerrari and McLaren P1 at 217mph) and 6mph faster than the third (918 at 210mph).

The price was one of other details we kwew about. The 2017 Ford GT is supposed to cost around $450,000, which is on the higher end of the supercar price list. Compared to the Holy Trinity, the GT is a steal. Compared to the Huracan or R8, even the C7 Z06, its expensive.

At the end of the day, its more than safe to say the 2017 Ford GT is the fastest production vehicle from Ford’s lineup. Exceeding the Shelby GT500 Super Snake, which saw the 200 mile an hour range.

The 2017 GT is definitely a threat to the some of supercar royalty. With over 600HP and a top speed in excess of 215mph, only the best of the best can run with it or by it. That list includes names like Huayra, Chiron, Agera and Regera, which are hypercar royalty in my book. Granted, these numbers are impressive, there are two facts that would have owners, prospective owners, and enthusiasts intrigued. 1) The Texas boys, HPE (Hennessy Performance Engineering), will make the already vicious GT, even more vicious. And 2) The 2017 GT and any Hennessy configurations, will peel your face from your face, while you are screaming in enjoyment.
