AMG Dreams: CLS63 AMG and GTS- #blackonblack

Mercedes-Benz. In my opinion, it is one of the best top tier automakers in the world. It was always one of personal favorite automakers seeing as owning a Mercedes has always been a goal of mine. I think the infatuation started with…a couple of Hot Wheels and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 featuring the CLK GTR. But after a short visit to a Mercedes-Benz dealer near me, I got to experience one of my old favorites in the CLS63 AMG and one of my new favorites, the AMG GTS. The best part about the cars was the wheel and paint option…black on black.
The Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG, was probably my first real favorite Mercedes’. Well, in a way, the CLK GTR was the first but it was a love/hate relationship. My cousin always managed to wax me in Hot Pursuit 2 yet, I could never wax a McLaren. Anyway, the infatuation with the CLS63 AMG started at first sight. It was so cool to me with its coupe like shape and four doors. It was just plain beautiful to me. It also managed to have other companies produce immitators because of the design. I’ll also add that I had one in Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition Remix.

The reason why the CLS63 AMG stands out more that the other sedan offerings from Mercedes-Benz is it’s different design. combined with AMG power. While a C63, CLA43, E63, and S63 are all solid cool cars and in the event that someone handed the keys to me, I’d proceed to destroy the tires, the CLS was the first of its kind. First of all, the 577 HP, 5.5L Biturbo AMG V8 with the torque numbers to match is impressive. The styling doesn’t get old. The interior, is beautifully crafted worth the flat bottom steering wheel to boot. The CLS is still on of my favorite Benzes.

Across the show room, is the new super Benz, the SLS’s replacement, the AMG GTS.

Black on black with red calipers, the GTS is the new super Benz and in terms of design, it’s a far cry from the SLR and the predecessor SLS. The GTS looks sleek and beautiful but still retains the classic super Benz look with a long snout and short rear.  The only thing we are missing are special opening doors…

The AMG GTS, is powered by a 4.0L Biturbo V8 which produces just over 500HP and 480lb ft of torque. That propels the GTS to 60 in the 3.0 second range and with help from the 7-Speed AMG Speed Shift dual clutch transmission, the GTS can reach 210mph. That’s not why I like the GTS however.

For one the GTS is a beautiful car. When I sat in this model, which listed for $150k, I was alerted by the chime. The seating position was kind of low but with adjustments, it probably on the same level as the C7 Corvette Z06.  The large touchscreen display is accompanied other features such as a AMG flat bottom steering wheel, paddle shifters, and other supercar typcial components. It feels like I’m sitting in heaven mounted on four 20″ wheels. My only complaint is the positioning of the shifting and infotainment controls, but this is something that takes some getting used to. But the reason why, the GTS is one of my favorite Benzes of all time is, 49.5% due to the fact that we share the same birthday.
